“10 days after Williams 3rd birthday we found ourselves on the way to the ER, with an impending diagnosis of type 1 diabetes. Over the past week, we noticed he was drinking excessive amounts of water, urinating frequently and even having accidents in unlikely places. We decided to check his blood sugar and upon wakening it was 172. We headed to the ER and by that point his blood sugar was in the 400’s. William was brave through all the pokes and prods. We stayed in the hospital for 4 days and came home with a continuous glucose monitor (CGM), which gives us great relief to be able to monitor his blood sugars continuously, but there are still numerous challenges we, and William, face every day since his diagnosis.” -William’s Parents

Our nonprofit was created to raise awareness about the daily challenges children with Type 1 diabetes face and to advocate for solutions that make life safer and more manageable. While technology like CGMs help, they aren’t reliable—failures, skin irritation, and devices falling off are all too common, as we have seen through William’s journey. That’s why we began exploring the life-changing support a diabetic alert dog (DAD) could provide, as these specially trained dogs can detect blood sugar changes through scent, offering an additional layer of safety and companionship. Our mission is to raise the funds needed to provide William with his own DAD, and eventually, to offer scholarships to help other children with Type 1 diabetes get their own alert dogs too.
